PDO TREATMENTS
PDO Fine Thread Therapy is a new treatment being offered by Dr Benjamin du Bruyn.
The treatment is non toxic, non pyrogenic and heavy metal free
Upper and lower cheeks, jawline, naso-labial folds, marionette lines (folds adjacent to nose and mouth), chin and neck.
PDO Fine Facial Thread Therapy can very effectively strengthen the contour of the face, reduce roundness, lift sagging skin in the cheeks, and jowls.
Enhances skin tone and tightens pores.
Local anaesthetic is injected into the treatment area. The PDO thread will then be introduced using a cannula or micro-needle into the required area. The procedure will take around about 40-60 minutes, depending on what treatment you will require. You will be able to fully resume your everyday routine and social commitments within a couple of days. PDO fine thread therapy is a tailor made treatment which can be adjusted to your requirements at any time. When combined with Dermal Fillers and Anti-wrinkle treatment(Botulinum toxin) great results can be achieved.
How does it work?
Skin rejuvenation from the natural wound healing process.
PDO Fine Thread therapy originated from the traditional thread lift philosophy in western medicine as well as 'threads-embedded therapy' in oriental acupuncture therapy to control and improve tissue stimulation and muscle contraction.
The product used for PDO therapy is a fine needle (21G-31G) affixed to the absorbable thread (thickness of 0.05mm - 0.4mm and length of 25mm -140mm)
The needle is inserted into the subcutaneous layer of the skin, and when it is taken out, the thread remains implanted in the skin. Insertion of dozens of needles to the deeper layer of skin with absorbable threads activates their natural regenerative process and mechanical stimulation of wound healing and tissue contraction.
Initial swelling takes place which will subside after two weeks. From two weeks up until 6 months collagen production takes place around the threads. The maximum effect is reached after 6 months. For more effective, long lasting results it is recommended that PDO treatments be repeated every 6 months for between 2-3 years.
The threads are made of a material called PDO - or Polydioxanone, a clinically proven bio-compatible and bio degradable material that is widely used in medical suturing.
The most recent development in thread lifting has been the introduction of cog threads. A move away from the traditional monofilaments to barbed threads, this new shape induces higher chronic inflammatory reaction causing a higher rate of fibroblast conversion during the wound healing process. As a result, clients achieve a longer lasting and more visible effect after a single treatment.

THE THREADS
Who is a good candidate for PDO fine thread therapy?
The best candidates for PDO therapy are men and women who are beginning to experience sagging of the mid and lower face, visible jowls and loose skin on the neck.
Can PDO threading be used alongside other aesthetic procedures?
PDO fine thread therapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatments to deliver optimal results eg, dermal fillers, botulinum toxin injections, micro-needling (dermaroller), and peels.
When do you see results with the PDO fine thread therapy?
The result is not visible immediately. The result will become visible over a period of 2-6 months as new collagen grows between the threads and gives a further lift and tightening to the skin. The PDO threads gradually dissolve over 6 months but the resulting lift remains.
How long do the results last for?
This varies depending on the patient's age at the time of treatment, the quality of skin, degree of sagging and the number of threads used. However, studies have shown that results can last between 2-3 years. . For more effective, long lasting results it is recommended that PDO treatments be repeated every 6 months. Additional threads can be placed in the same area as well as any additional areas to further extend and enhance the collagen frame underneath the skin. Talk to your healthcare provider regarding repeat treatments.
Are there any side effects?
PDO fine thread therapy is a very safe procedure and complications are extremely rare. Minor complications may include temporary swelling and bruising. Patients may feel slight tightness or a pulling sensation following the treatment which subsides over a few weeks.
